The Secret Law of Attraction and How to Use it in Goal Setting

Is the Law Of Attraction a Secret?
The Secret. You may have heard of the The Secret film and now DVD and best selling book by Rhonda Byrne. The Secret was widely discussed during 2006/7 and resulted in appearances by the author Rhonda Byrne on Ophra. It’s main thrust is all about the Law of Attraction. This so called secret has been around for a long time and at least a hundred years so I would hardly call it a secret. It has had many names and has been used by many people both deliberately and unknowingly for centuries. So what is The Secret? What is the Law of Attraction? And how can this help me in setting and achieving my life goals?
We Live and Learn by Repitition
The Law of Attraction states that you will attract to you the things you desire in life by thinking intently about them. Some people have described this as mumbo jumbo, the placebo effect or ‘snake oil’ packaged in a different way but there is definitely more to this than meets the eye. Let’s think for a moment about how humans, in fact all mammals, are built to function on planet earth. We are designed by earth and its environment to survive by learning about its dangers and benefits through repetition. At the basic level if you work a muscle it becomes stronger, don’t work it and the muscle cells actually die off. Our brain is the same; if you work your brain you have more knowledge and can use that knowledge to your advantage. Let’s face it; some things are easy to achieve in life and some things are harder. It’s easy to touch your nose with your finger as long as you are in good physical shape. It’s hard to free dive down to 122 meters beneath the ocean surface but an English woman, Tanya Streeter, did it in 2003. How could she achieve something that would definitely kill you and I? Usain Bolt ran 100 meters in 9.58 seconds, something no other man has ever done. Anyone who has even a little talent in any area whether it is physical or mental can improve their performance dramatically by consistently repeating the thing that they want to do most. That is how we are designed, we learn by repetition and every element of our body learns and grows stronger through repetition.
Focus and Desire Creates Achievement
So, it follows that if you focus your thoughts on something and you desire it with sufficient intensity then your brain will tend to create the conditions for the achievement of your goal. For me, this is what the law of attraction is all about. It is a combination of positive thinking, brain washing, that’s right, brain washing and focus on your goals that really makes things happen. You cannot sit in your living room and never leave the house and take no other action whatsoever and expect that your meditation to get rich is just going to happen. We have a body and a brain and when we use both we can really make things happen. The body is in fact the brain’s vehicle for doing this.
Your Values are What Make You Happy
Where do you start? First, identify your values in life. Make a list of the things that are really important to you. It may not be money or business, maybe family is more important to you or adventure or love. Whatever it is you need to make your list of values and then do something radical. Prioritise these. Imagine it was your last day on earth and you had been granted just one wish. Which of these values would you want to hold on to and be known for when you pass on? After that decision now repeat this for the remainder of the list. Give yourself only a minute to decide each and that way you will naturally be forced to decide. Choose only three, any more and you will be chasing you tail in no time. After this write the three values out on a new sheet of paper and for each value write down the most important things that you want to happen. These are your goals and you should write these beneath each value. Your goals are the things you must work on in your life in order to feel happy now and fulfilled and remembered when your life is over.
Build Good Goal Habits
To attract the achievement of these goals you must plan. Identify the tasks that are required for achieve each goal, map them out over time. Set success criteria for your goals. Assess the resources you need, time, people, money, etc and make plans to acquire everything you need. Spend time each and every day thinking about your goals and the tasks, problems and issues and before too long you will automagically be achieving you goals. It will feel effortless because you trained your brain to just do it. This is the real down to earth law of attraction. Dreaming, planning and hard work always bring the results. Good luck with your goals.
great hub... thanks for sharing..rated up :)
I practice the law of attraction too.I was wondering what do you think about the recent scandal with James Ray one of the teachers from the secret and do you think this will hurt the movement of the law of attraction and the "Secret" society?
...well a humble man like me could learn a thing or two (or three) from an astute gentleman such as yourself - so I will come back for more because YOU CAN teach an old dog (that's me) new tricks - and believe me I need them.
By the way we have a wee bit of a connection here my friend - my mum and dad were both born in STIRLING - 1918 and 1921 - they are both gone now (probably back to the Wallace Monument and that bridge where they used to sit.
Briefly, my dad left Stirling at the age of 2 - ended up in Canada (where I live now) - came back as a Canadian soldier in WORLD WAR II - went up on leave to his birthplace and met my mum. They had a romance - he went back to the front and D-DAY - and my mum came over here as a war bride in 1945. Quite a story - and you serve up quite the hub!!!!!
Quite informing and interesting, I just voted it up.
This was very nice to read. I had once skimmed through The Secret, and while it had given me warm happy feelings, I think I did write it off as mumbo jumbo for the naive. The way you put things though, just makes sense. Thanks! I am going to try out your advice!

Hi MakeMoneyGoal,
Thanks for following me!
I am very interested in the Secret and have read lots about the Law of Attraction. I am actually working on a hub about it myself. The only problem I have with it is maintaining a positive attitude. If things dont work out as I had hoped I find it too easy to slip back into negative thinking. So thanks for this hub. It has reminded me to look on the bright side.
A practical approach is probably what most people miss. There is always (not in your case by the way, this is very much to the point) so much bla bla bla about experiences, etc., before there is REAL info.
I'll definitely go to the link you mention above.
Thank you!!
